Aerogels are amazing substances. They hold 14 entries in the Guinness Book of World Records, including best insulator and solid with the lowest density. The material, which feels like very light chalk, consists of 95% air and is only three times heavier than it. It is suitable as an insulation material, catches electrons and other particles in particle accelerators, travels into space as insulation materialand as a cosmic dust collector on the Space Shuttle and can also function as a carrier for the active ingredients in drugs.

Under the product names of Spaceloft and Pyrogel we offer these special insulating materials with a thermal conductivity of 0.013 – 0.016 W/(m∙K) available in almost any shape and lamination.

The advantage of aerogel mats over vacuum insulation (still the best insulator) is that there is no risk of compromising the insulating properties through use of common tools. At the same time, the mats are highly flexible and adapt superblyto even tight bending radiuses.
